Music & C*
One thing we have always known about C* is his love for music. His mom has taught him how to complete several tasks by teaching them through songs (brushing teeth, learning his phone number...). However, in the past, when presented with an instrument- he used to appear scared. C* does not like loud noises (balloons popping, slamming doors.. ) and we assumed that he got scared because he might think it makes too much noise.
Just the other week, I decided to give music class another shot. At first, C* put his hands over his ears and looked almost afraid. Then, we were all pleasantly surprised to find out that C* is now willing to play an instrument. In front of him was a bongo. One of my assistant teachers played a quick beat. C*, to our surprise, picked up the other bongo and started to imitate Sean, his teacher. He LOVED this! He started to make his own beat. We couldn't believe our eyes! His imitation was really good. He was trying really hard, it was beautiful.
Excited, I told his mom about his successful class. About a week later she sent me an email letting me know how happy her husband was when he came home that night. He reported that during Boy Scouts, one of the leaders played his guitar for the boys. C*'s father, Frank, shared that C* went up close to the man playing the guitar and listened with a smile. This was a first experience for them.
C* has come so far as a learner. He shows us more and more about himself every day. Music has always been an interest of C* but recently, he is expanding his interests. I am so excited about the many places this can take us!
